Careers
Silver Networks is a privately owned IT services company delivering outsourced IT, infrastructure, and hosting for small (1-100 users) and mid-sized organizations (up to 500 users) across Canada and the USA.
We are growing and hiring people who take pride in building IT that is stable, secure, and supportable for the long term. If you enjoy deep technical work, strong fundamentals, and solving real infrastructure problems (not just closing tickets), you will likely feel at home here.
We offer stable careers, a sustainable work environment, and competitive compensation for highly skilled technical staff.
What we do
Our work covers the full lifecycle of business infrastructure:
-
Designing and improving networks (single site to multi-site)
-
Building and supporting server and virtualization environments
-
Storage, backup, disaster recovery, and restore confidence
-
Secure remote access and practical security hardening
-
Hosting and hybrid infrastructure design
-
Technical support ranging from end-user issues to deep server/network escalations
-
White-label, partner-friendly infrastructure support for other IT providers
A lot of our value comes from reducing complexity and stabilizing environments that have accumulated years of inconsistent configuration. We focus on clean design, sensible standards, and root-cause resolution.
The kind of work you can expect
Depending on your role and experience, you may work on projects like:
-
Designing or rebuilding reliable server stacks for business-critical workloads
-
Virtualization cluster builds, migrations, and performance troubleshooting
-
Storage design (including ZFS-based systems) and capacity planning
-
Backup strategy implementation and restore testing (the part many providers skip)
-
Network segmentation, firewalling, and VPN-first secure access models
-
Reducing attack surface by keeping internal systems private where practical
-
Troubleshooting complex issues that span networking, storage, OS, and application layers
-
Helping partner IT providers with server-level escalation and project delivery
If you enjoy understanding how the full stack behaves under real-world conditions, you will get that here.
Technology we work with
We are comfortable across proprietary and open-source platforms. We choose based on what is best for the client: reliability, security, supportability, and total cost of ownership.
Common platforms and systems
-
Virtualization and related infrastructure: Proxmox (VE, PBS, PMG)
-
Storage: TrueNAS and ZFS-based designs
-
Network security: pfSense (and similar firewall/VPN architectures)
-
Linux and BSD systems (server-side services, storage, and tooling)
-
Microsoft environments (Windows, Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP)
-
Backup platforms and repositories (including large-scale backup storage targets)
-
Monitoring and visibility: internal-only monitoring designs (commonly per-client implementations of tools like LibreNMS)
How we approach trust and security
-
We aim for security that is strong but usable, not security that constantly interrupts users.
-
We prefer VPN-first access patterns to reduce exposure of business systems.
-
We avoid remote management designs that rely on permanently connected third-party relay networks.
-
Remote support is typically handled using controlled, time-bounded access methods (for example, one-off sessions through our own relay infrastructure).
You do not need to be an expert in every tool listed above. What matters most is strong fundamentals, good judgment, and the ability to learn quickly and apply what you learn.
What we value
We work best with people who have:
-
Strong troubleshooting skills (methodical, evidence-driven, calm under pressure)
-
Solid fundamentals in networking, systems, and security concepts
-
Good documentation habits and respect for clean operational practices
-
The ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical people
-
A mindset of fixing root causes, not patching symptoms
-
A long-term view (build it so it is still stable and supportable years from now)
Work environment and culture
We put a high emphasis on work-life balance and sustainability. High-quality infrastructure work requires clear thinking, and that requires a healthy working environment.
What you can expect:
-
Work that is technically meaningful and varied
-
A culture that values competence and professionalism
-
A practical approach to tooling and process (no tool sprawl for the sake of it)
-
Support for ongoing education and career development
-
A benefits package for permanent, full-time staff
